Great Knott Wood – Woodland right on our doorstep, cared for by the Woodland Trust, whose on-going project of restoration will ensure that this one of Cumbria’s ancient woods is saved for posterity.
A short drive away
Fell Foot Park and Gardens – A Victorian Park, owned by the National Trust, directly across the lake by short ferry ride. Fine picnic areas, children’s playground, tea room and boat hire. A regular ferry service from Lakeside connects with the lake steamers.
Stott Park Bobbin Mill – A 19th century working museum just a 15 minute stroll towards Hawkshead.
Millerbeck Light Railway – Situated in the grounds of Millerbeck House in the Lakeland village of Staveley-in-Cartmel. Normally a private home of the owners, although they do open the railway to the general public on .

The Lakeland Motor Museum – Just a 5 minute drive from the hotel and houses some 30,000 exhibits including cars owned by the famous and a Donald Campbell Bluebird exhibition.
The Dock Museum in Barrow – A stunning museum built over an original Victorian dry dock. Exhibits include spectacular ship models, computer interactive, film show and “Shipbuilders to the World” exhibition. Landscaped coastal site. Adventure playground. Free admission. Free car parking.
Brockhole on Windermere – A fantastic outdoor attraction with a range of activities for all ages, from mini-golf & zip-lines to kayaking & archery.

Holker Hall & Gardens – Over 125 acres of glorious gardens and grounds. Savour delights from the Courtyard Cafe or purchase some of the newest addition “Food at Holker Hall” – farm shop selling produce from the Holker Estate. Special Events throughout the year.
Brantwood, Coniston – The former home of John Ruskin is one of the most beautifully situated house in the Lake District. Explore Brantwood’s estate and gardens or experience contemporary art in the Severn Studio.
Sizergh Castle & Garden, near Kendal – A National Trust property set in wonderful grounds with walks around the estate, this castle has been lived in by the Strickland family for 700 years.
